Dr. Graeme Roberts

A graduate of St Andrews and Aberdeen Universities, Professor Graeme Roberts taught English at Aberdeen, specializing in 18th century literature and the short story.  He latterly served as Head of Department (1993-96), Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Divinity (1996-2001) and Vice-Principal for Teaching and Learning (2001-05), and was also a member of the University Senate and Court.  As Vice-Principal, he led the University team in the Quality Assurance Agency’s Enhancement-Led Institutional Review in 2005.

He chaired the Steering Committee for the Scottish Employability Enhancement Theme (2004-05) and since 2006 has worked for the Higher Education Academy, whose mission is to help institutions, discipline groups and staff to provide the best possible learning experience for their students. As a Senior Associate, he has particular responsibility for supporting the Academy’s work on employability and internationalization in Scotland.

He was Director of the British Council Summer School for Overseas Teachers of English in Aberdeen (1978-1999) and has contributed to staff development courses in Austria, Germany and Poland.  He represented Aberdeen at the European University Association’s Roskilde, Zurich and Graz conferences and has been one of the UK Bologna Experts since 2005.  He was a member of the recent DAAD MOCCA project to develop guidelines on integrating transnational student mobility into the core curriculum and is currently participating, on behalf of the HE Academy, in the Quality Assurance in Higher Education Change Agenda project.  He has also contributed to Bologna seminars in Austria, Germany, Norway, Sweden and Turkey and was chief rapporteur for the official Bologna seminar on learning outcomes based higher education (Edinburgh, 2008).

In his spare time, he was Chairman of the Scottish Museums Council (2001-2007) and currently chairs Aberdeen Performing Arts.”
